June 12th meeting changed – Node.js

computer-156951_150We unfortunately had to change the schedule around a bit. John is out of town this coming Thursday, so the July meeting presentation is moved to June.

So this month’s presentation will be “Node.js – Build your own web server with JavaScript” by Ronald Bruintjes.

Node.js is an up and coming technology. What is it, and how can you build a web server without IIS or Apache? We’ll run through installing node.js and npm, show some examples, touch on node.js frameworks and database usage. Bring your laptop and have a working web server in less than an hour!

Ronald Bruintjes is an Applications Engineer at Medeco Security Locks in Salem. He has worked for almost 25 years with a variety of database environments, including Progress OpenEdge, Microsoft SQL and MySQL, and a variety of programming platforms, including C, Progress OpenEdge, Python and JavaScript. Currently he’s involved in transitioning the company to a new ERP system. In his spare time he spends time ith his wife and kid, and dabbles in gardening, electronics and other computer languages.

Venue and time are still the same: Excella Consulting, Corporate Research Center, 2000 Kraft Drive, Blacksburg, from 6PM to 7:30PM.

Hope to see you there!
